Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means “Union.” It implies an underlying and pre-existing state of oneness between all things. The practice of Yoga helps foster the understanding and first hand experience of this union between body, mind and spirit. The intention is to help the practitioner use breath and movement to develop an awareness of this fundamental truth—that each individual is inseparably connected to, and apart of, the unified whole of creation. It’s about learning through practice to live in peace, good health and harmony with the greater whole. Yoga was defined and first practiced in India thousands of years ago and the foundations of yoga philosophy were written down in The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, approximately 200 AD. Tenderpaws Yoga respects this tradition and is also inspired by the original Tantric and Non-Dual teachings.
